The Story Behind the Crazy Pants

I’m sure people have wondered why would a self-respecting law professor voluntarily wear outrageously colored and patterned pants by Official Loudmouth Golf. In public. Not at the golf course. On the days of the bar exam. The answer is simple: I do it for my students.

Preparing for the bar exam is stressful. Examinees have endured years of law school and months of intense preparation for what ultimately comes down to a two-day exam.

Tension is high the morning of the exams. It is to be expected. That’s where the pants play their role. The pants garner looks. They cause double-takes. They’re conversation pieces. But, most importantly, they help the stressful examinees get their minds off the exam for a brief moment. The pants give the examinees an opportunity to clear their minds and do a “reset” as they begin to walk into the examination room. A good chuckle or a large grin before the exam could just help an examinee’s performance just a bit.
