Making the Most of Class on Halloween

I teach online courses each Tuesday and Thursday evening. This meant that students in my Tuesday section had to decide whether to attend class and potentially delay their Halloween festivities or take me up on my offer of allowing them to attend the Thursday section instead.

It was apparently an easy choice for many students. The allure of Halloween festivities made Tuesday's class feel like a ghost town, but I tried to have fun with the situation, blending online learning with the festive spirit.

I began class with a Star Wars crawl to make the learning experience more memorable.

I dressed as a Scout Trooper (the best of all the troopers) with a backdrop of Endor. While dressing as a Star Wars character might seem unconventional for a law school setting, I hoped to break the monotony of Tuesday evening classes by recognizing that this wasn't any regular Tuesday evening class. Also, when else do I have an opportunity to dress up as a Scout Trooper?

Students also participated in the Halloween-themed class, too, as they were vying for awards for best law-related costume, best original costume, and best overall costume.

Good class, I hope they had.
